After what seems like years of planning, we took a Disney cruise last week! We had to wait until the youngest was at least 3 years old so she’d be able to participate with the others in the kids’ programs onboard. Well, Olive had her 3rd birthday in March, so it was time!
We stayed in Orlando Saturday night, then took a shuttle to the ship on Sunday morning. While the luggage was being unloaded, the grandkids waited patiently outside the terminal gate.
L – R: Maile (8), Mason (6), Nikos (5), Kira (4), Olive (3)
Here we are in the Port Canaveral cruise terminal, ready to pass through the Mickey tunnel as we prepare to board the Disney Dream.
L – R: Sandy, Linda, Heather, Taki, Vernie, Peggy, Maile, Melanie, Mason, Kira, Nikos, Bill, Verne (You can see Olive’s pink crocs behind Vernie’s right leg!)
Once onboard, we posed as a group
For those of you who may not know, Sandy is Cindy’s sister, Peggy & Verne are Vernie’s parents, and Linda is Taki’s mom.
The itinerary for our 5-night cruise consisted of 2 stops at Disney’s private island Castaway Cay (Monday and Thursday), Nassau (Tuesday) and a cruising day on Wednesday. Friday we returned to Port Canaveral.
Stopping twice at Castaway Cay was one of the major reasons we’d chosen this particular itinerary. We’d heard nothing but great things about this island, and we weren’t disappointed when we got there! It was so handy to just walk off the ship to all the activities.
We spent most of our time at the Family Beach with its powdery white sand and calm, clear water.
This structure reminded us of the old River Country in Disney World.
Niko & Taki returning from the waterslide
Kira & Olive sharing a tube in the shallow water
Melanie, Mason, Maile & Vernie enjoying the sun
Olive & Heather relaxing together
Bill, Sandy & I took a bike ride around the island before it got too hot.
Mickey & Minnie stopped by for some fun with the kids(Maile & Mason are in the middle of the photo)
And what else did Castaway Cay have that we enjoyed?
