We were staying in a ground level condo and found a distinct advantage to being at that level: the wildlife was right outside the window! There were a couple of foxes that walked behind our building everyday, and several times came onto our deck. Watching for them became a highlight of our day.
When we weren’t observing the foxes and chipmunks from our condo’s windows, we were out exploring Breckenridge. We enjoyed a variety of hikes in and around the town and the ski resort.
The ski runs look so different with no snow! We hiked up a forested path to this reservoir.
There’s a tribute to the 10th Mountain Division, as well as public art, along the beautiful Blue River recreation path.
These two photos were taken along the Sawmill Trail, which crossed a picturesque stream a few times.
Besides hiking, biking is a popular activity for visitors to Breck in the summer. We decided to try a guided tour starting at the Vail Pass and ending in the town of Frisco. It was great, a well-maintained paved trail that was DOWNHILL for the entire 12 miles!
We started in Breckenridge, where our bikes were loaded onto the trailer. We climbed into the van and were driven to the start of the ride. The scenery was awesome! As you can see, we had beautiful weather – at least for the first 3/4 of the ride.
We began to notice dark clouds in the distance, and sure enough, the rain caught up to us for the last 30 minutes or so -- and we got soaked -- but it didn’t ruin the trip at all. In fact, we definitely want to do more biking next summer when we return to Breckenridge.
