Santa Fe VIA The Turquoise Trail

Friday we went on a bus tour from Albuquerque to Santa Fe.  If you go on Interstate 25 it is about 63 miles but we took the scenic route that is know as the Turquoise Trail.  This route runs by many of the old turquoise mines and old boom towns of New Mexico.  I’m sure you heard of them, Golden, Madrid and Cerrillos to name a few.

Here are a few photos to show you how these boom towns have changed.

Madrid is the town where the movie Wild Hogs was filmed and Cerrillos has four prisons, two federal prisons (one is closed), one state prison and one county jail.

Santa Fe is the oldest capital city in the US. It also has the oldest church in the US with a spiral staircase that is known as the Miracle staircase.  To this day it is still not known how the staircase was built without using nails.

Santa Fe is also noted for all of its fine art galleries and museums.
