What a great time to be in London! Although the Olympics ended over a week ago, there are reminders everywhere, including those like the banner in the photo above. In the center of the photo, you can see a monument to the fallen soldiers from World Wars I & II. The tomb at the top is empty, just a symbol of the lives lost. We passed this monument on our Westminster Walk today, following along with a Rick Steves narration on our iPod. Other, more famous sights included Westminster Cathedral, Buckingham Palace, #10 Downing Street, the London Eye, and Trafalgar Square. We also passed Big Ben & the Parliament Building
a Winston Churchill statue that is electrified so that pigeons won’t sit on it
and, the highlight for us both, the Churchill War Rooms, part of the underground facility used during World War II.
The rooms have been kept exactly as they were during the war.

Altogether we covered over 6 miles today in mostly cloudy 70 degree weather – perfect conditions for walking. Tomorrow, we’ll be touring by bike. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that the dry weather continues!
