Although we can see plenty of whales from the beach, we wanted an up-close viewpoint. We joined Peggy, Verne, Carole and Tom on a whale watching trip with Captain Steve this morning. It was great!
Tom and Bill are on the lookout for whale sightings!
I know the photos won’t do it justice, but let me just say that at times we were surrounded by whales, and at one particularly exciting moment, one was headed for our boat, right where Peggy was sitting!
The guy leaning over the side was hoping the whale would get close enough to touch. (Didn’t happen!)
Although we saw several whales breaching (propelling their whole bodies out of the water and flopping back down), we were unable to get any good photos. I think we were in awe of what we were seeing and couldn’t react fast enough!
We were able to get some shots of the whales’ other behaviors. First, the spray as the whale exhales:
Here’s a shot of a dorsal fin as the whale begins a dive:
Finally, the whale’s tail as it completes it’s dive:
It was amazing to be surrounded by these magnificent creatures. What a satisfying way to spend the early morning hours!
