Castle Day!

Today we drove back into Germany, to the region of Bavaria, so we could see a couple of castles. Their names are a mouthful: Hohenschwansgau and Neuschwans. Bill & I simplified it by calling them the yellow castle and the white castle.

If the white one looks familiar, it's because that's the one Walt Disney based Cinderella's Castle on. (Look at the tallest tower.) Both castles are within walking distance of each other, connected by paved paths and stairs that are pretty steep in spots. Shuttle buses and horse drawn carriages were available for those who didn't want to walk.

Besides taking guided tours of the interiors, we took plenty of time to walk around. Beyond the white castle there's a footbridge that gives fabulous views.

On the way to the bridge, we caught a glimpse of the yellow castle, way in the distance.

Here's a view of the bridge from the white castle.

We topped off our day with dinner at a beer garden in the village just a few minutes' drive from the castles. I was in heaven with my sausage (with horseradish mustard) and sauerkraut. Best of all, the pretzel came with it! Woo hoo!

This is the view from our table -- not too shabby!
