Vienna the home of coffee houses, Sacher Torte, and oh yes music

We got an early start this morning for our sightseeing in Vienna. Our bus pulled out at 8AM sharp.  First stop Schonbrunn Palace.

This is just a summer palace for the Habsburgs (If you don't know about the Habsbugs, they were the most powerful family in Europe for 600 years up to 1918.). That's why they had this 1,441 room palace built to be used four months in the summer.

This happened to be the 100 year celebration of Emperor Franz Joseph's death. He was the second to last Emperor of the Habsburg Dynasty.  As I said the dynasty fell in 1918, the end of WWI. We couldn't take photos inside.  We could take photos in the garden as you will see in the next few photos.

They also have a clever way of advertising the exhibition that is running at the local art museum.
They use the steps.

We had lunch at one of Rick Steves' recommended restaurants and had the whole patio to ourselves.

We went by the Hotel Sacher.

And saw them bringing in a fresh batch of tortes.

We went by the famous opera house but didn't get a chance to tour it.

We walked back to our hotel and got a few shots of the city.

We are off to hear a concert in the Schonbrunn Palace this evening.
