We say yes to Sardinia, our terrific port of call yesterday. What a beautiful island it is! We began with a walking tour of Old Town Alghero, including quaint pedestrian walkways and the 14th century San Francesco church.
We boarded our bus and set off along this harbor side boulevard which took us past pristine white sand beaches.
The coastline changed to harsh cliffs with crystal clear waters below.
We saw some snorkelers among the coral reefs. Verne would love it here – no current to sweep him off to Tahiti!
As we drove into the interior, we passed Nuraghi ruins that date back to 1800 BC. Yes, the round towers and huts were built 3800 years ago! Our guide said that these settlements were to the Sardinians what the pyramids were to the ancient Egyptians. They were amazing in their design, incorporating mazes to confuse invaders and using cork for insulation.
After all that sightseeing, we had a relaxing and enjoyable visit to a winery where we tasted the local champagne. Delicious!
We learned that Sardinia is actually closer to north Africa than it is to mainland Italy. The island is uncrowded and laid back. As we sailed away from Sardinia, we decided that when we get home we’ll check to see if there are any timeshares on the island. We wouldn’t mind coming back and spending a week here!

This is where Sarah and Jeff went on their honeymoon. If you go back they will have to tell you where to find the restaurant with the Jumping Cheese!
