Uh, the French Rivera

P1020868

The past two days this is the view we have had in the morning from our stateroom! Today we arrived in Cannes, France around 7AM.

Above is the port area in the old part of Cannes.

We tried something new at this port.  It was a self-guided sightseeing tour of Cannes using a map and an ipod.

Here I am standing in front of our first tour stop with the map in one hand and the ipod in the other. Who said old people are technology challenged.  We figured out how to use the ipod and we didn’t have to call either of our son-in-laws! I know the younger set would have been stumped with the map! (What, no GPS? they would say.)

Our next stop was at the market place.

How about a little fresh swordfish for dinner tonight?

P1020882

Cindy took this photo to show all the fresh fruits and vegetables and she thinks I would look great in those shorts!

Our next stop was up on top of the hill that you see in the photo of the port area.  We stopped at the old fortress and church at the top.

The flat ones decided to climb to the top of the fortress tower using the old stone steps.  They didn’t make it too far.

We also saw where the Cannes film festival is held.  When they have the festival you can only get into the festival if you have an invitation.  On average there are 78,000 invited guests.  Did you get your invitation for next year? The photo below shows the entrance to the festival building (not much to look at).

Also we visited some of those famous beaches on the French Rivera.

P1020914

Just a little too crowded for my taste but it was in the mid 90’s today!

We did so well with our self-guided tour we even got to see our ship sail off without us!

P1020903

No, just kidding. The ship was anchored in the harbor and we had to take tenders into the dock!

This post had me laughing out loud twice! I have $20 for you if you leave those shorts in the Riviera.

Sounds like you guys are having a great time -- we're glad about that! In the swordfish picture -- if you look at it quick the woman standing by the 3rd "sword" over looks like Beth! At first I thought you put a picture in from your other cruise to see if any of us would notice! Keep these gret posts coming!!
