Bill and I both really appreciated our pre planned rest day in Wotton-under-Edge. Especially me. My poor blistered feet needed a chance to recover. Our B&B had a pleasant atrium where we sat for hours relaxing, reading and overlooking the hilly scenery, often in the company of our hosts' two dogs, Alfie (shown here) and Ned.
We had a short walk into the center of the town where we ate lunch at The Falcon, a pub recommended by the owners of the B&B.
After lunch we walked down the block to see a tiny 17th century chapel, the door of which is so small that Bill had to duck to get through.
The chapel is still used for weekly services.
This little village is OLD - first mentioned in a royal charter dated 940 AD, but modern conveniences can be found such as ATMs and a post office.
Wotton-under-Edge (which in Saxon means 'the farm in the wood') is a nice blend of the old and the new, and proved to be a nice place to spend a day.
