Our first stop today was the Giant's Causeway, a place we were both really looking forward to seeing. It didn't disappoint!
Legend has it that two giants, one Irish and the other Scottish, were competing to see who was mightier. The Irish giant, Finn McCool, threw boulders into the channel to form a walkway across the water, then snuck across to Scotland. When he saw how much bigger the Scottish giant was, he panicked and scrambled back to Ireland. His rival heard him and gave chase. Finn quickly dressed like a baby, and fooled the other giant into thinking Irish giants must be much larger than he was, if their babies were that big! Back to Scotland he ran, and Finn immediately destroyed the walkway so his enemy could never return. Here's what remains:
Of course, geologists have a different explanation which involves volcanic activity, blah blah blah . . . Whichever you choose to believe, this is one fascinating sight!
A few miles away we found the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge, which was originally built for salmon fishermen to access the tiny island just offshore. These days it's mainly for tourists who want a thrill.
So of course, we paid our £6 each to check it out. Fun! Almost like a good ride at Disney World though, it was over too quickly. Good thing we got to walk back across with our tickets.
After all that excitement we headed towards Donegal & our next B&B. We were greeted by this serene view, which was a perfect way to end our day.
