Swapped hiking shoes for touring shoes today

Today we decided to take a break from hiking and just be tourists and see some of the sights. First thing up was to take a photo of our accommodations for last night. It was the first hotel we were booked into on our hiking trip.

The hotel was the Royal George in Birdlip. We met up with three hikers that were staying at the same B&B as us in Winchcombe. We had breakfast with them on that day and ran into them at lunch the next day and had lunch with them. We all got together at the hotel bar and had drinks and later had dinner together. We found out during dinner that all three (husband, wife and friend) were retired doctors from Devon, England. We had a great time together and hope to cross paths with them later in the hike.

As I said we decided to rest and see the sights today. You will note in the photo above that the rain was still coming down. That may have played a big part in our decision today.

Our first stop today was in the small town of Painswick. A very nice small town with very narrow streets and very strangely trimmed trees around the main church. See photos below.

After spending the morning in Painswick we caught the local bus to the town called Stroud. The towns' sizes are like going from Rio Vista (Painswick) to Concord (Stroud). There was a lot to see and do.

Our first stop was at a small cafe to have tea and cakes (my kind of stop)

Next we took some photos of the pedestrian mall and the center of town.

We thought this was an interesting sign. We don't know whether you go there to give advice or get it.

After that division we hopped back on the bus for Painswick and our B&B.

Here is Cindy walking down the last hill to our B&B

Fall is starting to show its fantastic colors.

Here I am greeted by the welcome committee at the B&B

Well it is back to the footpath tomorrow. The weatherman has promised us a fresh (cold) and sunny day. Let's hope they do a better job of forecasting the weather here!
